Most attorneys are driven individuals, and it’s easy to see why they fall into the trap of working non-stop. They often feel a sense of responsibility to their clients and colleagues and want to deliver the best possible results. However, it’s important to remember that taking time off is beneficial and necessary for our overall well-being.

Finding a balance between work and personal life can be challenging, but it’s crucial for our mental and physical health. Stepping away from the daily routine can allow us to recharge our batteries, gain perspective, and return to work with a renewed sense of purpose. By prioritizing our personal time, we can enhance our productivity, creativity, and quality of life.

In Steve’s interview with Kimberly Lee, founder of Desert Law Group in Palm Springs, California, she shares how she built her law practice from scratch and the challenges she faced as an immigrant to the U.S. from Taiwan at 17 years old. You’ll also hear:

  • Kimberly’s secret weapon to success is hard work. She used that work ethic to open a successful law practice when she completed law school.
  • “Not yet” projects are all about learning. If you’re facing a new challenge and can’t do it, you aren’t there yet but in the process of overcoming it. These “not yet” projects are great for acquiring skills for enjoyment.
  • Intentionally taking time off allows you to nurture relationships with friends and family and pursue things you want to accomplish. You’ll become a more interesting person with more things to talk about than just work. Time away from the office also allows you to see where there are problems and what issues need to be addressed at work.
  • “Not yet” projects can teach you to embrace frustration. If you view frustration as a learning tool, you can find even more challenges to conquer.

Kimberly’s story is inspirational to anyone facing adversity in their career or personal life. She shows that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and a willingness to challenge yourself.
